What Is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a very safe and beneficial state of relaxation.  It lowers the stress response and triggers the relaxation response.  The relaxation response in the body is the healing response.  Simren (2006) says that the relaxation response has a general rebalancing and positive effect on the body's neurochemical system.

Deabler (1973) in his study said that in the autonomic-endocrine realm, that the relaxation response has demostrated that these areas can be controlled positively by the mind.  Albert Ellis (1985) described the use of hypnotherapy and rational emotive therapy together, as a way of modifying irrational beliefs.

Hypnosis is a state between waking and sleep, and in hypnosis you are aware of your surroundings, but are far more receptive to positive suggestions.  Hypnosis is a very natural and safe state, and feels very relaxing and comfortable.  It also helps the person to make those positive changes to meet their goals.

Hypnosis gives fast and comfortable results, because it is working with the person's own subconscious mind.  Dr. Candace Pert is well recognised for her pioneering work in Psychoneuroimmunology, and she says that the body, mind and spirit are inseparable. Of course instinctively we always knew this, but now science has made this awareness and knowledge official.

It is known that hypnosis has been used for thousands of years by various ancient cultures.  Historically we also know that hypnosis was used by the ancient Egyptians.  More contemporary Clinical Hypnotherapists like the famous Milton Erickson are very well known.  Dr Erickson was a Psychiatrist who developed the use of Ericksonian Clinical Hypnotherapy.  The knowledge and benefits of hypnosis are now becoming more widely known, as consumers are becoming better educated and are looking for a more natural and safer alternative to drugs.

Everyone can be hypnotised, as long as they want to be.  All it takes is a desire to work as a team with the Counsellor / Clinical Hypnotherapist, in order to reach the person's goals.  When combined with a solid counselling approach, clinical hypnotherapy is a wonderful adjunct to work with the causes and the symptoms of problems at the same time.  Please never confuse stage hypnosis with clinical hypnotherapy, because stage hypnotists are only accredited for entertainment, whereas the clinical hypnotherapists are fully trained and accredited to work with people's problems. Clinical hypnotherapists, through their professional associations, are bound by a strict code of conduct and training standards.  These members are always the most experienced, because as professionals they use clinical hypnotherapy in their practices on a daily basis, and have done so for a number of years.

To see the benefits of hypnosis one needs to experience it.  Hypnosis is a most comfortable and enjoyable experience, and best of all hypnosis is fast, safe, effective and drug free.
